Pin Up vs. Boudoir

A question I get many times: What is the difference between Pin Up Style Photography and Boudoir Photography?

Pin Up Style Photography is specifically geared towards a look from the 1940’s to 1950’. The first pin-ups in history were flirty drawings of women designed to be “pinned-up” on the wall. In the 1940’s the trend exploded during World War II, with pinup posters and cards distributed to cheer soldiers and remind them what they had to come home to. After the war ended in 1945, the most famous pinup was Bettie Page. She is credited as the first pinup to successfully transition from illustration to photography.

Pin up photography requires specific posing, props, and hair styling. If you like to read more about it and get inspired, I found a great comprehensive blog post at: https://fixthephoto.com/pin-up-poses.html

I don’t get the request often to shoot a true pin up session, but I wanted to share some great fun shots from my recent session with Ingrid. She had in previous years done a boudoir photo shoot, fine art nude session and a beach photo shoot with me. We brought the “Mobile Beauty Team” to the studio to do Ingrid’s hair and makeup.

Thank you to everyone to do this fun photo shoot and have a good time!
